The Barts Health new hospitals project is replacing many ageing buildings at St Bartholomew's (Barts) in Central London. The first phase, a state-of-the-art cancer centre, opened in March 2010. Construction has started on the second phase, a cardiac centre of excellence due for completion in 2014. Part of the work required the short term installation of high efficiency boilerplant. Skanska selected two Atlantic Multi-Elec 210kW electric boilers.

These boilers have a compact footprint, fitting into limited space and are without flue problems. In addition, they have an efficiency exceeding 99% GCV and an electronically-controlled balanced three-stage heat input. The standard range covers from 9kW to 630kW, with larger boilers available up to 1000kW on requirement.

Skanska also chose two Atlantic C20-1000 litres domestic hot water buffer storage vessels with three 18kW stages of heat input and a high level of thermal insulation. Standard capacities up to 6000 litres are available. The final details of the programme are expected to complete in 2016 when the Atlantic equipment will have performed its efficient function.
